Professor Rebecca Braun, Executive Dean, College of Arts, Social Sciences and Celtic Studies
Professor Rebecca Braun is currently Executive Dean of the College of Arts, Social Sciences & Celtic Studies at the University of Galway. In this role, she leads on fostering connected approaches to culture and creativity as key strengths within both the University and the wider region, as well as setting the College’s broader strategy for success across its core missions of delivering excellent research and education.
Formerly a Co-Director of the Institute for Social Futures from 2017-2020 at Lancaster University, UK, she has pioneered a distinctive ‘creative futures’ methodology with partners across government and academe in the UK, Ireland, Continental Europe, South Africa, and North America. Her futures work builds on a deep understanding of the power of people and stories, which she has traced in numerous books on authorship, world literature, transnationalism, and cultural value.
Rebecca has studied and worked in the Universities of Oxford, Manchester, Liverpool and Lancaster, as well as in a visiting capacity at the Freie Universität Berlin. She regularly provides expert peer review to national UK and European research funding agencies, and served as an Interdisciplinary Research Advisor to the UK REF2021 on UoA26: Modern Languages & Linguistics. Rebecca holds a D.Phil. in German Literature from the University of Oxford.
