Research Ireland and the Wales Innovation Network (WIN) have entered an agreement that aims to support the strategic aims of both governments. The Research Alliance Award is a supplementary fund to active Research Ireland grants that provides grant holders with seed funding with the aim of developing competitive cross-border bids for Horizon Europe grant applications through supporting collaborations between researchers in the Republic of Ireland and Wales.

Research Ireland will act as the lead agency on applications. A single joint proposal from applicants in both countries will be submitted to Research Ireland under the lead agency. Welsh based research groups will be funded by WIN and Irish research groups will be funded by Research Ireland. Multiple applications may be submitted from a Research Body, however individuals may only be the project lead on one application.
