Science at the Marina: A Free STEAM Event Full of Discovery and Family Fun in Cork!

Get ready to spark your imagination and explore the wonders of science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) at Science at the Marina! This one-day, FREE event takes place at the Marina Market in Cork City on Saturday, 16th November 2024, from 11:00 to 16:00 for Science Week. It invites families and curious minds of all ages to a day packed with hands-on discovery and excitement.

Hosted at the bustling Marina Market, Science at the Marina brings together top scientists from Teagasc, University College Cork, Tyndall National Institute  and leading Research Ireland centres, including APC Microbiome Ireland, iCRAG, Insight, IPIC, VistaMilk, MaREI. From the mysteries of the human microbiome to groundbreaking advances in artificial intelligence, light engineering, virtual reality, and sustainable food and agriculture, there’s something for everyone to explore.

 

Event Highlights:

Arts Meets Science: Collaborate with artist-in-residence Maria McKinney on a mural inspired by ‘The Cow Jumped Over the Moon’.

Interactive Science Exhibits: Take a journey through a giant inflatable gut, engage with hands-on technology demonstrations, and learn about advanced sensors and agricultural innovations.

Cultural Connections: Visit the Culture Corner to meet researchers who speak your native language, making science accessible for all.

Science on Stage: Be captivated by live shows featuring engaging talks from fascinating speakers.

Student Art Gallery: Admire Science through the Generations, a display showcasing the artistic talent of local schoolchildren.

Fun Activities: Arts and crafts, spinning the Science Wheel for prizes, and more! 

Quiet Hour: From 10:00 to 11:00, the event will offer a quiet, limited capacity experience for families and individuals who require a calmer environment. Pre-booking is required on Eventbrite.
